45 hours in the making, this is the second portrait of Ilana Dewet’s gorgeous chestnut warmblood Alabama, done in chalk pastels / soft pastels on Amedeo mixed media pad. This is a relatively new medium to me for more serious works, though I have played with it for years, but I loved the challenge and the boldness of the drawing medium that puts it on a par with a painting.

This very toothy paper was well suited to the medium and it was super to be able to capture this beautiful horse decked out in all his splendor for dressage.
