This was a 24 inch x 36 inch deep canvas oil painting commission by Jannie de Klerk of a Lipizzaner performing a Levade in the sea for his aunt’s birthday. Not being a horse fan himself, but having an aunt who is as much a horse fan as I am, Jannie gave me quite a free rein with this one. As a result, it is one of the pieces that I particularly like.

I had to merge the horse into the background sea seen, and the different textures of water and rock and sand that made up the backdrop were an interesting challenge.
